Iron & Manganese In Bore Water: What Causes Staining And How To Fix It

If your bore water is leaving orange streaks in toilets or black smudges in laundry, the culprits are almost always iron and manganese.

How they get there

Both minerals occur naturally in Sunshine Coast aquifers. They dissolve into bore water under low-oxygen conditions and re-oxidise on contact with air, leaving rust-coloured or black deposits.

The diagnosis

Our Full Bore Water Test measures iron, manganese, hardness, sulphate, and bacterial activity — giving you the full picture in one report.

The treatment

Treatment depends on concentration. Below 0.3 mg/L of iron, an oxidising filter is usually enough. Above 1 mg/L, you'll likely need an aeration tank + multimedia filter combination.

Our optional Expert Advice add-on includes personalised treatment recommendations.
