Why Acidic Water (Low pH) Is Eating Your Plumbing

pH measures how acidic or alkaline your water is. Rainwater typically falls between pH 5.5 and 6.5 — slightly acidic. Below 6.5, water can start dissolving copper and lead from old plumbing.

Signs you have acidic water

  • Blue-green staining around taps and drains
  • Pinhole leaks in copper pipes
  • Metallic taste in the morning

The fix

A neutralising filter using calcite or magnesium oxide raises pH gently. Our Expert Advice can specify the right unit for your home.
